Atomic Dogs Flyball and Disc Team

New surface at the Flyball venue. Though other teams have run on "fake grass" before, our dogs never had. They really struggled to adjust to it's slippery surface. Skidding and slides were goin on all over. By the end of the weekend some dogs had figured out how to compensate with a butt tuck to put on the brakes prior to hitting the box, Others never did. It was hardest for the bigger dogs. We experienced lots of ball bobbles and wide turns and that led to missed jumps. We were not the only team struggling though, everyone was. Some clubs even pulled their division 1 teams. Results were Saturday Regular Electrons took 2nd place, Variety Hap-E-Dogs took a 4th. Sunday both teams took 3rd in their respective divisions.

Leo and Lil Jack definitely get the MVP for this weekend. Best I can figure on Saturday Lil Jack ran 37 heats (more if you count reruns from early starts)... completing 35 perfectly... only when we ran him back to back at the end of the day did he have any struggles. Unbelievable performance and endurance from both of you.

Casey and Roo Congrats on your 4.7 single time and Your first Flyball title. Roo stepped up and joined the Variety team on Sunday giving us one additional breed as an option. Ran start and ran clean. Excellent dog handling from the rest of the Variety team to set Roo up for success.

The ball shagger held together... Thank you Miles for your welding skills... this is the first tournament in a Loooooong time it has not fallen apart by the end of the weekend. Sarah and Lisa thank you for your work keeping the lanes clear. You are on your way to your next titles as Junior Handlers.

As for the frisbee competition: In Freestyle Sierra dominated taking a first with ten year old Awesome and second place with Snaz, (Connie & Nikki fell apart due to her poor disc handling in the wind). Toss & Fetch we all got some competition going on and it was fun. In their first competition Dave & Sammi, Shelley & Sushi, Casey & Roo and Leo & Lil Jack. All got some decent numbers on the board despite the wind.. yeah for Ed and Nikki taking home the first with several throws past the snow fence that were caught mid-air.
